Introducing embroidery artist Nicole Chui, who moved into Blackhorse Workshop studios last month.

Nicole Chui describes her style as messy, brash, and disruptive specialising in freestyle hand embroidery. Through stitch, her work is driven by the desire to preserve & create memories, disrupt perfection, and unpick traditions. She is currently exploring the integration of her identity in football culture.

Since graduating from London College of Fashion, Chui was selected as one of the ’25 Future Faces 25 and Under’ by the Evening Standard and gone on to work for Nike, Asos and Vogue Italia and exhibit at Somerset House, The NOW Gallery, London Design Festival and The MAC Belfast.

Nicole’s also set up a football club in response to the lack of Asian representation in British Football culture. Baesianz FC is a space for women, trans and non binary people of Asian heritage to play football, and aside from promotion of training and participation of the games, the WhatsApp group of the club also serves as an active community that share opportunities in the creative field.
